History
After years of informal discussion, MPABA incorporated as a non-profit community improvement group and adopted official by-laws in November 2010. Since then we’ve:
  • Created and organized a very successful Community Block Party held each September on 25th Street in Mount Penn in cooperation with Antietam School District, Pennside Presbyterian Church, Trinity UCC, Faith Lutheran Church, and the borough of Mount Penn, numerous community groups an opportunity to raise funds for their organizations.
  • Exclusive participation in our annual Community Block Party
  • Established an annual scholarship for an Antietam student pursuing a post-secondary education in the field of business or culinary arts.
  • Organized a restaurant group within MPABA to promote the Mount Penn Area as Berks County’s Premier Dining Destination! Nine locally-owned and very unique restaurants will cooperate in group advertising and promotional events throughout the year, including the funding of this year’s $500 scholarship.
  • Grew membership to more than 40 businesses in Mount Penn, Lower Alsace, Exeter, Saint Lawrence and the city of Reading.
  • Created new street banners for Mount Penn. Thanks to Margaret Saylor for designing, the borough for financially supporting, and the Mt. Penn Fire Company for hanging.
  • Created a newsletter to help build awareness of our members and events taking place in the community.
MPABA is looking forward to taking our organization to the next level full of exciting events and expansion activities.
